Karauli is a town of the state of Rajasthan in India. Karauli used to be the capital of the Yaduvanshi Rajputs in the 14th century. When the town was founded in 1348 AD it was known as Kalyanpuri after the local deity Kalyanji. Karauli was then fortified with red sandstone walls, most of which are in ruins today. Karauli has some noted places of visit like temples of Kaila Devi and Madan Mohanji and other historic monuments. The annual fair at the Kaila Devi temple is quite popular.
